Elizabethan Chimney Stack Needle Case
Carolyn has kindly agreed to lead us through her ‘Elizabethan Chimney Stack Needle Case’.
She will be with us for both January and February meetings. We thought those interested could start on the homework needed for this project at the January meeting – to cover the needlecase with delicas, ready for embellishment, the exciting bit, at the February meeting.
Requirements for covering the needle case January meeting and / or as homework before the February meeting:
1 x 91mm long wooden needlecase. This is the extra long one, but it should be possible to adapt the pattern to the standard size case if you prefer.
10 – 12g size 11 delicas for covering the body (A)
5 – 7.5g size 11 delicas for making the hexagonal base (B)
2g size 11 seed beads for the corner beads on the hexagonal base (C).
10g size 15 seed beads for the netting (to match the delicas used on the hexagonal base, B) (D)
56 x 2mm pearls
(The size 15 seeds for the netting (D) are also involved in the covering and a few 2mm pearls are used to finish covering the base).
In addition – for adding the lattice pattern and making the lid in February
2g size 15 seed beads to contrast with D (E)
1g size 15 seed beads (same as D or another contrast colour) (F)
1g size 15 seed bead (same as E or another contrast colour) (G)
1 x 16mm Swarovski rivoli 1122
20 x 3mm Swarovski bicones
Size 12 and 13 beading needles
Beading thread of choice (Carolyn used 6lb Fireline)
Important – Carolyn would like to let those of you doing her project to know – if your lid of the needle case is exactly the same diameter as the body (36 delicas around it) you will need a 14mm rivoli to go on the top, if fatter than the body then a 16mm rivoli is needed (40 delicas around the lid).
